US Sailing Small Boat Level 1 Instructor Course

Interested in learning more about teaching sailing, and developing the skills necessary to do so in a competent and professional way?  Want to position yourself for possible employment opportunities in a fun, satisfying field?  Well, this may be for you - ETYSA and Blackbeard Sailing Club are hosting a US Sailing Smallboat Level 1 Instructor Course at Blackbeard Sailing Club  on 2 consecutive weekends in 2020 - April 18-19 and April 26-27. US Sailing’s Smallboat Level 1 Instructor Course is designed to provide sailing instructors with information on how to teach more safely, effectively, and creatively. Topics covered in the course include: classroom and on-the-water teaching techniques, risk management, safety issues, lesson planning, creative activities, ethical concerns, and sports physiology and psychology. Who should take this course?:   Anyone interested in teaching beginner level sailors, youth and adult. Prerequisites: Must turn 16 in the calendar year & hold NASBLA Approved Boating Certificate (can be taken online) Course length: 4 days - 40 hours Texts used: Smallboat Instructor Guide (includes Learn Sailing Right-Beginner!), Learn Sailing Right-Intermediate!, Teaching Fundamentals for Sailing Instructors & Basic Powerboat Safety & Rescue Learn more about the Level 1 certification (including cost) by visiting the US Sailing website: https://www1.ussailing.org/Enrollment/ViewPrereq.aspx . ***ETYSA will reimburse 1/2 the cost of the course for preapproved individuals (youth and adult candidates) who (1) successfully complete the course, and (2) agree to work for at least 1 summer with ETYSA.  ETYSA also plans to have a free clinic on power boat operation prior to the Level 1 course for those that need help in this area.  ETYSA encourages its students to expand their knowledge of sailing by teaching.
