ETYSA Week 6: Learn to Race (Beginner/Intermediate Level) ETYSA’s Intro to Racing I & II is designed for sailors who have completed at least one week of our Learn to Sail program and are ready to explore the fundamentals of sailboat racing. This session is not intended for first-time sailors or beginners. Throughout the week, participants will develop skills in: Race starts Upwind and downwind sailing techniques Basic racing strategy and tactics To ensure proper placement, please include your child’s sailing experience during registration. Boats Used: Optimists (Optis) (ages 8–12-year-olds) Intermediate Level Topaz (ages 10–14-year-olds) Intermediate Level Sunfish (ages 12–16-year-olds) Intermediate Level 420’s (ages 12-16-year-olds) Intermediate/Advanced Level Camp Times: Drop Off Time: 9:15 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Picnic Pavillion Camp Time: 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Pick Up Time: 3:30 p.m. Water Comfort Check (Required on Day 1): The ETYSA Water Comfort Check is designed to assess a participant’s comfort and safety in the water, rather than swimming ability. All sailors must complete this check on the first day of camp before participating in any on-water activities, including sailing and capsize recovery. The Water Comfort Check includes: Life Jacket Fit Check: Instructors will ensure each sailor’s life jacket fits properly. If needed, a properly fitting loaner will be provided. Swim & Tread Water: Sailors will enter the water wearing their life jacket, clothes, and shoes. They will swim approximately 25 yards, tread water for 1 minute, and then return to shore. Join the 2025 ETYSA Race Team! Is your sailor ready to take their skills to the next level? ETYSA is excited to welcome participants to our new 2025 Race Team, a great opportunity for sailors to grow through competitive racing in a supportive and fun environment! About the ETYSA Race Team: Purpose: To encourage the growth of junior sailing through racing, supported by ETYSA’s equipment, venue, staff, and volunteers. Practice Schedule: Practices are held once per week on Tuesdays with Wednesdays as an optional make-up day for weather cancellations. Sailors must commit to at least 4 practices. Regattas: ETYSA coaches and volunteers will support 2–3 local regattas throughout the summer. A coach boat will accompany and support our sailors on the water. Regatta details will be shared after registration. Eligibility: Ages: 10–19 years old * Younger sailors can attend with prior approval from Program Director. Skill Level: Completion of the Little Red Book (basic sailing skills) or approval by the Program Director. Ideally sailors will have attended 1 session of "Learn to Race" Sailors will be evaluated at their first session to ensure readiness. If more skill development is needed, the race team fee will be refunded, and your sailor may be encouraged to continue in our Learn to Sail program before rejoining. Membership: Active ETYSA membership is required. Boats Used: 420s, Sunfish, and Optimists (Optis) Dates & Times: Practice Dates (Tuesdays): June 10, June 16, June 24 July 8, July 15, July 22, July 29 Time: 4:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. Coaching Staff: Jean Volk – Head Instructor Meredith Dart – Program Director Cost: $150 for the season (Regatta entry fees, travel expenses, and any private coaching outside of scheduled team events are not included.)

**MUST have approval to attend this week.** It's TIME TO KICK OFF THE SUMMER!  ETYSA would like to welcome back our veteran camp participants and Junior Instructors in Training.  Participants may attend the entire week or each day separately.  This week will be used as training for our instructors and volunteers.  In addition, advanced sailors will have the opportunity to learn and practice spinnaker and trapeze skills. Come join us for a fun week on the water to kick off the summer sailing season! Pricing for this special advanced training week is $35/day.  You must be a current ETYSA family or sponsor member (Family membership is $50.00 a year).

ETYSA is encouraging interested sailors to join the 2024 ETYSA Sailing Team!  Our purpose is to encourage and foster the growth of Junior Sailing through Racing, utilizing the equipment, venue, staff, logistical support and volunteer efforts of our club!  Support Is intended to provide for High School Sailing, One Design, and  "big boat" PHRF racing Eligibility (1) Membership in ETYSA (2) Command of the basic skills of sailing (i.e., able to tack, jibe, stop, start, and right your boat after a capsize).  (3) A desire to learn more about the sport of sailboat racing! Experience level will be evaluated, and if a sailor needs to work more on basic skills before joining the team, the team fee will be returned.  Students may join at any time during the season. Schedule: Intentions are for the team to meet and work on sailing skills from late April through the end of August.  The precise schedule may change dependent upon staffing schedules and sailor needs, but will begin with twice weekly meetings (tentatively on Wednesdays and Sundays) Cost:  $250 for the season.  This does not include Registration for Regattas, travel to regattas, or any private coaching fees outside of scheduled team events.

ETYSA's Last week of the 2024 Summer is designed for full out fun! Dubbed "Repeat Week" by campers, this week is intended for students who have attended one or more camps with ETYSA previously.  This week will focus on games and activities that make sailing and summer fun!  Ending the summer with friendships and memories for a lifetime, campers have called Repeat Week the best week of the camp season!  Each class starts on Monday and runs through Friday, from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm.  Participants must have attended camp before (previous summers count!).   You must be a current ETYSA member to register for camp. (Family membership is $50.00 a year).

ETYSA's Intro to Racing II and Advanced Racing is designed for camp participants who are interesting in learning the skills involved in the sport of sailing, and who have attended at least one or more weeks of summer camp.  It is not intended for first-time campers. During Intro to Racing II and Advanced Racing, sailors will expand upon the skills learned in Intro to Racing I, and will expand their knowledge of the tactics and skills involved in Racing Starts, Upwind Sailing, and Downwind Sailing After this week, interested sailors have the opportunity to put their new skills to the test as a part of the ETYSA Race team at the either the the Manteo One Design Regatta on July 27, or the Carolina Yacht Club Invitational (Charleston NC) (separate registration, not included in camp cost).
